Hello, everyone. As most of you probably have seen, my computer has been fixed, so I have been able to post requests. I also just posted the fan made thumbnail for the next episode of DB: Black Widow vs. Widowmaker. In addition to requests, I do have a few picture-related posts coming up, two of which are countdowns.
The first is the Countdown to Avengers: Endgame. It's during this I'll be posting fan made character posters for the roster of the New Avengers. I think it's obvious that, going forward, there will be a new team of Avengers with the old team members making cameos every now and again. As it stands, this is the roster I have, and one that we will most likely see: War Machine, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, and Vision. I don't know what order I'll post them in, since I'm not sure who will be the leader of the new group. I've heard everything from Black Panther to Captain Marvel, so I think those two along with Strange will be the first three. I'm also not sure if there will be lengthy descriptions since you all know my thoughts on the castings of the characters. I may discuss what I think will happen to them in the future, but we'll see when we get closer to Endgame's release.
The next is Countdown to Godzilla: King of the Monsters" which will most likely be shorter. The plan for the countdown is to post a series of fan-made Monarch files on the following monsters: Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Kong, Gamera, Clover, and Zilla. I'm fully aware that the last three monsters are not in the Monsterverse yet, and most likely won't ever be. But, and keep in mind this is just a fan made thing, is my fan made roster for Earth's monsters/titans in a remake of "Destroy All Monsters". Since Ghidorah will be the big villain for King of the Monsters, I chose Destroyah as I feel that's the next logical step to go. I say this because, adding to the three-headed space dragon being the villain for King of the Monsters, director Michael Dougherty has teased the Oxygen Destroyer on his Twitter. I'm not saying this will lead to his inclusion in the shared universe, but there's a chance that could be what those posts are hinting at. The countdown will end with a fan poster/DVD cover for the remake. I'm working on the Monarch files now, but I'm waiting for better images of Mothra and Rodan before I work on the poster. Plus, if we're lucky to get images of "Godzilla vs. Kong", I may be able to include the older Kong that's set to appear in that film. We'll see what happens between now and May, especially since Warner Bros. moved up Godzilla vs. Kong's release date to next March 13th, so we may get something, though it may not be until SDCC.
Speaking of Kong, I've also been working on a few stories for the 13 Days of Halloween. One of which was suggested by godzillafab, and that is Cthulhu vs. Olympus. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to turn it into something more than a normal story on here. I have given it some thought, and I am strongly considering writing a book series involving two different monsters battling each other, and they're all part of the same universe.
A lot of this has come from watching YouTube user the Omi-Viewer, who is an author himself and has reviewed many monster-related novels. Those reviews, which are in the channel's playlist titled "Kaiju-Lit Circle", have really given me inspiration to try and make these stories longer to create a book series. Now, I'm in no way saying that this will happen. In fact, I'm sure it probably won't happen, but it is something I would like to do.
Now, I'm working on one of the stories right now, which is called "Kong vs. Frankenstein", which is based off a lost project by Willis O'Brien, the stop motion animator who worked on the original King Kong movie. Not long after, he wanted to make a film titled "King Kong Meets Frankenstein", which would see Kong take on a giant version of Frankenstein's Monster. A lot happened, but the end result was the original King Kong vs. Godzilla in 1962.
As much as I enjoy that film, I do think it was unfortunate that O'Brien never got to see the project come to life. Now, there are two conflicting ideas as to what the film would've been about. I've heard that it only went as far as the descendants of Carl Denham and Victor Frankenstein encountering Kong and the Monster, but there was another rumored plot that had the grandson of Dr. Frankenstein, Kurt Frankenstein, create a new Monster from the parts of African animals, and decides to put it on show. Not one to be outdone, Carl recaptures an alive Kong from Skull Island after putting him back on Skull Island, and challenges Kurt to a promotional boxing match in Fran Francisco. This goes horribly wrong as the Monster drops a girl during a stunt, and their battle rages on in the streets, ending when both monsters plummeting to their demise on the Golden Gate Bridge.
In the vein of "King Kong vs. Tarzan" by Will Murray, I did want to try and use that plot, but I just don't see it working. The main reason being is that I feel it ruins the end of the original Kong film, which, in my opinion, is one of the most iconic endings in not just monster movie history, but movie history in general. So, with that being the case, I took the route Murray used for his novel and still used the idea, but with a different plot. See, Merrian C. Cooper, one of Kong's original creators, wanted to make a Tarzan vs. Kong film with Tarzan fighting the giant ape on his home of Skull Island as a prequel. According to Murray, he wanted to do that, but felt that the premise wasn't sufficient, at least not for him, and he came up with the story we now have in the novel.
That being the case, I took a similar route and made it an re-telling of the original Kong story. It involves a filmmaker named Frederick Carlson traveling to Skull Island with his writer and friend Hank Denholm and actress Anna Wilson to make a film about a lone woman getting lost at sea, wash up on the island, and encounter the various creatures there, including Kong. Of course, it goes wrong as the natives capture Anna, knock out the crew, and sacrifice Anna to Kong while the crew remained tied up until Carlson, who managed to escape, frees them. They set out to rescue Anna, which ends in success, and Carlson wanting to bring Kong to their home of San Francisco to challenge fellow filmmaker Kurt Frankenstein to a boxing match with their respective monsters. The reason for the voyage is Frederick being rejected by investors, who choose to go with Kurt under the impression he can deliver the film they want: a giant monster movie that involves a romantic subplot. Of course, it goes wrong, and from there, the story uses a lot of O'Brien's ideas for the story.
Now, this isn't the first story in the planned series. The first is another Kong film, where he takes on a famous foe of the original Frankenstein Monster: Count Dracula. I actually posted a DVD cover for the idea titled "Dracula meets King Kong" as a request from godzillafab. Giving it some thought, I think the plot has enough for a full-length story. The plot is as follows: "While on a voyage to England, the ship known as the Demeter is caught in a storm and his blown off course to the Indian ocean. After passing through a mysterious fog bank, the crew of the Demeter discover an uncharted island: Skull Island. Anya, the captain's daughter, is captured by the natives and sacrificed to Kong. The captain leads the crew, most of which comprise of the crew that eventually fall prey to Dracula, to rescue his daughter. Meanwhile, Dracula, knowing if the crew perishes, he'll never make it to England, he follows them in secret. This leads to a final battle between the King of the Vampires and the King of Skull Island." This is the first story in the series, as it's a prequel to Kong vs. Frankenstein, with Carlson mentioning the crew of the Demeter. I won't mention the connection for spoiler-reasons, but I hope it'l make sense.
Now, these aren't the only stories I have in mind for the series. There are others I have in mind, two of which sees the return of Dracula, so he, along with a few others, will be a reoccurring character. Here are the others, and the plots I have in mind. Keep in mind that these are in no particular order, but you can guess from the time period where they take place in the series:
Chimera vs. Griffin: In ancient Greece, the monsters are hunted down and destroyed by the humans except for two: the Chimera and the Griffin. To bring them down for good, a curse is placed on both: the Griffin is cursed to become a stone statue, and only damage to it can awaken it, and the Chimera is cursed to go into a deep hibernation. It's only then is a prophecy is discovered, which says the two will reawaken and will destroy each other in battle. In modern day, a married couple, who are famous archaeologists, are called into help with a dig in Sumatra, leaving their teenage daughter alone at home. There, they discover the statue of the Griffin. During a tiger attack, the statue is shot and the griffin awakens, and attacks the dig, which results in casualties, including the husband. Not long after, the monster attacks a Greek fishing village, leaving an elderly fisherman as the lone survivor. 10 months later, two cryptozoologists, an author and an outdoors man, find the survivor, who warns them of not only the Griffin, but of the prophecy. The three men are captured by the tactical specialist of a cryptozoological private security firm (other reoccurring characters) with ties to the government and military, and are brought in to aid the group, led by the firm's senior official to track down and destroy the Griffin. The female archaeologist also helps, more for revenge purposes, while also dealing with her daughter. The elderly fisherman is returned home after telling the senior official while the two cryptozoologists remain with the group. After some tracking, the group concludes the Griffin will land in Hawaii, and a militaristic strike is launched against it. This results in the monster's capturing, but much to the chagrin of all involved, the higher ups of the firm order that they keep the Griffin remain alive for study. It's during all of this that plague-like occurrences hit New York, such as sea storms and volcanic eruptions, signaling that the Chimera is close to awakening. The two cryptozoologists go to investigate, finding the creature in an underground cavern. It awakens, as does the Griffin, which escapes its holding area. The two creatures eventually meet in the protagonists' home of Colorado and clash with the humans caught in the middle as they try to either escape the creatures' battle or destroy them.
As a note, I don't have a name for the private security firm just yet. I'm open to ideas if anyone has any suggestions. This is the first story they're appearing in, but they have roots in the next story. This is also the 4th story in the series in terms of chronological order whereas the next one is actually the second.
Dracula vs. The Headless Horseman: In 1893, an aged Ichabod Crane, a New York teacher turned police officer, is called back to Sleepy Hollow by the new Burgomaster to investigate a few mysterious murders that ended in the same manner: the victims have two puncture wounds in their throats and drained of blood. Crane's investigation leads him to believe that vampires are responsible, and his suspicions are confirmed upon meeting a group also searching for the undead creatures. The group, led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing, also includes Jonathan Harker, John Seward, and Quincy Morris. They confirm vampires are responsible and also confirm the culprits: Count Dracula, his three brides, and former friend turned vampire Lucy Westenra. Lucy attacks the group, but they survive and meet up at Crane's former home to discuss their plans. The group informs Crane of their past encounters with Dracula, and his plan is to turn the citizens of Sleepy Hollow into his undead army. In turn, Crane warns them of the Headless Horseman, who will soon return due to Halloween approaching. They set out to put a stop to Dracula's plans, but are attacked by Lucy and the three brides near the Horseman's grave. He returns, and battles the vampires, giving the humans time to escape. They flee to an old castle where Dracula has taken residence, and after informing them of his plans to use the Horseman as a general in his new army due to him possessing the Horseman's skull, he enters a battle with the humans. Upon the Horseman's arrival, the Count soon finds out the Horseman cannot be controlled, and the two monster clash in a battle that's waged through Sleepy Hollow. This leaves Crane and his new allies to put a stop to the chaos.
This is where the unnamed private security firm gets its roots, with Van Helsing forming it due to his confirmation of more than one monster in the world besides his old foe. Also, the story does borrow from the 1999 Tim Burton adaptation of Sleepy Hollow with Crane being an officer as opposed to a teacher as it is in the original story. I decided to combine the two jobs as I felt Crane is needed for the tale, and this was the best way I could put him in. Chronologically speaking, this is the second story in the series.
Cthulhu vs. Olympus: The planets align, causing Cthulhu to rise out of
R'lyeh and wipe out humanity. The Olympian gods, who have been around since ancient times, decide to save the humans under Zeus's decision as he desires to preserve their immortality in the humans' minds. To start, his brother Poseidon unleashes three sea monsters against Cthulhu: Scylla, Charbdis, and Nessie aka the Loch Ness Monster. Meanwhile, Hades revives Dracula and obtains the body of the original Frankenstein Monster from a museum to battle Cthulhu. Hades is also planning to overthrow his brother Zeus and rule the world, but Dracula is also plotting to break free from the control of Hades with the Monster's aid. Humans, Greek gods, and monsters go to war in an apocalyptic battle for the Earth.
This is the story that sort of inspired me to try and start up the series. It also makes references to past stories, with the Olympus gods mentioning the battle between the Chimera and the Griffin, Dracula mentioning his past battles with Kong and the Horseman, and the Monster becoming aware of Kong's battle with the new Frankenstein Monster created by his father's (Victor's) descendant. The security firm also appear, but I'm not sure if they'll be the main human characters in the story.
Now, with all this being said, this is where I think I may need some help. Since I would, hopefully, like to turn these stories into books, I feel as though they need to be longer than the stories I normally post on here. So, where does the help come in? Well, I need an outline for the stories. This won't be the case for Kong vs. Frankenstein, since that's just a retelling of the original Kong film. The others, however, are loosely based on other stories, but don't play out in as of a similar way.
To help with the outlines, I have come across an outline that may give a better idea of how they should play out. It's the treatment written for the proposed sequel of the 1998 Godzilla film, and I apologize for any strong language in the treatment. But it is an example of a story treatment, and I feel this will be the best one to use. I know this may seem like a lot to ask, but I am trying to improve these stories, and since some of you write a lot yourselves, maybe this can help you too. Here's the link: www.dropbox.com/sh/mw2pf52esym…
Again, I have no idea if any of this will actually happen. Kong vs. Frankenstein is the one that's for sure happening since I'm already in the third chapter of the story. I won't make any promises, but I feel if I have the right time and help, I can make these stories a lot better. On that note, I have no clue if these will be turned into books, and I'm pretty sure that they won't and they'll remain stories on here. Which is fine, since I think writing these stories are my favorite part of being on this website. But if by some slim chance that they can be turned into books, that will work as well. On that note, though, if they are, I may need some ideas on the covers for the books since I don't think basic photo shop will work.
So, that's all the updates for now. As you all can see, I have a lot planned, but I don't know how much of it will actually happen. I can't say for sure if these stories will happen beyond Kong vs. Frankenstein, either as books or stories on here. Of course, if they do, I will give credit to those who have helped me with the outlines since they will be coming up with things like how the stories play out in full, the character names, the security firm's name, and how the creatures battle. Again, and I can't stress this enough, I'm not for sure if any of this will happen. The Countdowns will happen regardless, but the stories are up in the air. Also, regarding the outlines, if they happen, I think using this website's notes or Google docs would be the best way to write them and for me to see them.
I do hope all goes well, but we'll wait and see. Hope you all understand my ideas with these stories, and why I may need your help in making them happen. These are just ideas for now, and nothing set in stone. So, if any of you have ideas, feel free to let me know. I look forward to reading them, and I look forward to the countdowns and maybe the stories. Thanks for reading.
EDIT: Also, if the story plans go through, I will be posting a PDF of other VS. ideas I have had. Keep in mind that some include characters that are copy written, so they obviously can't be part of this series should it happen. It'll be creatures that are either in the public domain or have no copyright over them at all.
